The Start of Something Great

It all began when the Cameron Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) purchased 54 acres near the Cameron Business Park on the east side of the city. In March 2012, the City of Cameron received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency. These funds were used for construction of various infrastructure improvements for the community event center (Founders Hall) at The Yards.

Two years later in 2014, the CEDC stepped up with funding from its economic development sales tax resources, and the Cameron Independent School District joined the team when it built the finest baseball facility in Central Texas using funds from a voter-approved bond issue.

At a cost of about $8 million, Phase 1 of The Yards at Cameron is complete. This includes Field #1, Founders Hall, 44 Farms Farmers Market, the hike-n-bike trail, a large outdoor play space for children and community parking.

It’s time now for Phases 2 and 3. With the addition of two baseball fields and three softball fields, The Yards at Cameron will be ready to make Cameron the premier youth sports destination in Central Texas. Get Involved
